LONDON (AFP) - Manchester City will aim to turn the pressure back on their title rivals on Saturday by re-establishing their slender lead at the top of the Premier League table with victory over Fulham.
City have endured a wobbly start to 2012, exiting both domestic cup competitions while suffering defeats against Sunderland and Everton to leave Roberto Mancini's side level on points with second placed Manchester United.
But with United facing a potentially tricky visit to Chelsea on Sunday, and third placed Tottenham travelling to Liverpool on Monday, City could well finish the latest round of fixtures with their noses back in front.
A dejected Mancini blamed himself for City's latest setback, a surprising 1-0 reverse at Everton on Tuesday which allowed United to go level on points with their bitter cross-town rivals.
Mancini said he had made "several mistakes" in the build-up to the Everton game which would not be repeated as City aim to preserve their remarkable 100 percent home record against the Cottagers.
"I acknowledge my mistake. It is important for me to know this because, like this, I can't do the same mistakes in the next game," said Mancini, who nevertheless insisted City were still in the driving seat.

"We are on the top again. We have 15 games. It is important next Saturday we win the game at home. We have time."
United meanwhile could welcome back Wayne Rooney, Nani and Ashley Young this weekend for their trip to Stamford Bridge, a venue that has been anything but a happy hunting ground for Sir Alex Ferguson's side in recent seasons.
Although United defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in last season's Champions League quarter-finals, Ferguson is still riled by the memory of his team's recent league meetings at the venue.
Last season a controversial Frank Lampard penalty gave Chelsea a 2-1 win while in 2010 United were left seething by a John Terry winner that Ferguson believed should have been disallowed.
"Games at Chelsea in the last few years have been tough and we’ve had terrible luck there which has caused us disappointing results," Ferguson said.
The United manager has challenged his players to respond to a series of demanding away fixtures as they bid to overhaul City.
"We've done very well away from home this season and we need to be good from now on," Ferguson said.
"We've got some really important away games in the run-in -- Chelsea, Tottenham and City. They're going to be crucial games.

"The players know what they need to do. They know their responsibilities and the standard and expectation at the club, and they have to carry those things with them when they go into games."
Liverpool meanwhile will look to maintain their impressive recent run of results against Spurs at Anfield on Monday, where victory for the Reds would edge them ever closer to the Champions League qualifying places.
The Merseysiders have responded strongly since being lashed by manager Kenny Dalglish following a tame defeat at Bolton last month, squeezing past Manchester City to reach the League Cup final while knocking Manchester United out of the FA Cup last weekend.
A comprehensive 3-0 win at Wolves on Tuesday was the perfect preparation for the visit of third-placed Tottenham, which is expected to see Luis Suarez make his return from an eight-match ban for racist abuse.
Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing said confidence was sky high at Anfield following their sequence of victories.
"The results we've had have brought the team closer together," Spearing said. "We've always been a close-knit group and are starting to show that on the pitch. It was just going to take some time before it started showing."

"She is such a revered person" Yeoh said of Aung San Suu Kyi
HONG KONG (AFP) - Actor Michelle Yeoh said Friday that playing the role of Aung San Suu Kyi in the "The Lady" was an opportunity of a lifetime, as the film about the Myanmar democracy leader made its debut in Hong Kong.
But the Hong Kong-based, Malaysian-born star refused to be drawn on the film's likely reception in Myanmar, otherwise known as Burma, where Suu Kyi's recent release from house arrest has ignited the democracy movement.
"When I first heard that someone wants to make a movie about Aung San Suu Kyi, instinctively I knew as an actor that this is a role of a lifetime," the former Bond girl told reporters ahead of the film's Hong Kong premiere.
"She is such a revered person, she is such a good human being (who) would be very inspirational for me not just as an actor but for my audience as well."
The 48-year-old star of films including "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" said the pressure of playing a Nobel Peace Prize winning icon of democratic struggle was a weight on her shoulders.
"Of course I was pressured, of course you feel a great sense of responsibility because of who she is and what she represents," Yeoh said.
"But I think what is important for me is my commitment not just to myself but to the profession that I love... This was truly an opportunity of a lifetime."
"The Lady" is a two-hour biopic that focuses on the private life of Suu Kyi, her late British husband, Michael Aris, and their two sons as she assumes the mantle of democracy leader in a country ruled by an iron-fisted junta.

Suu Kyi's struggle for her country came at a high personal cost. Her husband died in 1999 in Britain, and in the final stages of his battle with cancer the Myanmar junta denied him a visa to see his wife.
Suu Kyi refused to leave Myanmar to see him, certain she would never have been allowed to return.
While there is no scheduled release of the film in Myanmar, pirate copies of "The Lady" have flooded the streets of Yangon, which its French director Luc Besson described as an "excellent news".
"As an artist I'm always very happy even if it's through piracy that they can have access to culture, so obviously I'm really fine with that," he said.
But Besson said he hoped the recent signs of opening in Myanmar would see the film being officially released in the impoverished Asian nation.
"I'm even ready to give it for free... in Burma you know but the film is banned from Burma. They show a couple of signs of opening so I hope they will tolerate the film," he said.
"It's a wonderful film about Burmese people -- not so much the government but the people and I think any Burmese should be proud of the film," he added.
During the shoot, Yeoh met Suu Kyi at her Rangoon home in December 2010 weeks after the Nobel laureate was released from a seven-year house arrest.
The star was however deported and blacklisted when she tried to visit again in June last year.
Besson filmed the movie in Thailand near its border with Myanmar, as well as secretly in Myanmar itself, and used footage shot by pro-democracy activists.

NEW DELHI (AFP) - England spinner Graeme Swann and Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene head a star cast of cricketers who will be auctioned on Saturday to join the Indian Premier League.
As many as 144 foreign and Indian players have thrown their hat in the ring in an auction restricted to players not already aligned to any team in the money-spinning Twenty20 league.
Australian fast bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle, and England duo James Anderson and Ian Bell, are among the other leading players going under the hammer in Bangalore.
Each of the nine franchises have a maximum of $2 million to spend at the auction as they bid to strengthen their line-ups ahead of the fifth edition of the IPL which will be played between April 4 and May 27.
Team insiders warn, however, that no more than 20-25 players are likely to be bought since only a few slots are up for grabs to fill the quota of 11 foreign stars in the 33-man squads allowed for each club.
"Teams will focus on their strategic requirements, not on star quality alone," Delhi Daredevils executive Amrit Mathur told AFP.
"If a team already has a number of batsmen, it will likely go for bowlers. The idea is to provide an all-round balance to the squad."

Much will also depend on the availability of the players for the seven-week tournament that will host 76 matches.
England's international players will not be available for more than a month, since their tour of Sri Lanka ends on April 7 and is followed by a home series against the West Indies starting in mid-May.
The leading Australians will join the IPL only after their tour of the West Indies finishes on April 27.
Among the players to be auctioned are those from the Kochi Tuskers franchise, which took part in last year's tournament before being thrown out of the IPL in September for non-payment of dues.
Sri Lankan pair Jayawardene and world Test and one day wicket record holder Muttiah Muralitharan are among the Kochi players on the market, as well as New Zealand's Brendon McCullum and Indian veteran Venkatsai Laxman.
Former Pakistan international Azhar Mahmood, who now holds a British passport, is the only player from his country to try his luck at the auction.
Pakistani players took part in the inaugural edition in 2008, but were kept out of the next three editions amid growing political tensions following the Mumbai attacks later that year.
Tom Cooper of the Netherlands and the O'Brien brothers from Ireland -- Niall and Kevin -- are players from the non-Test nations on the auction list, which also includes Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal.
Players have to be cleared by their domestic cricket boards before they can enter the IPL auction.
"The short-list comprises some outstanding cricket talent," IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla said in a statement.
"Given that the list was prepared on the basis of the feedback from the franchises themselves, the stage is set for an exciting and eventful player auction."

A survey shows that 60% of mobile owners will check or use their devices during the Super Bowl
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Millions of American football fans will be watching the Super Bowl on television Sunday with one hand in the potato chips and the other holding a smartphone.
The "second screen" experience will be fueled by Facebook and Twitter and a host of Super Bowl-related applications for mobile devices providing everything from recipes to game statistics to re-runs of the celebrated commercials.
Sixty percent of mobile owners will check or use their devices during the showdown between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots, according to a survey commissioned by mobile marketing company Velti.
And nearly half of all viewers will check or use their mobile device up to 10 times during the game, mostly during commercial breaks, according to the survey by Harris Interactive of 1,428 US adult mobile owners.
"You're looking at your phone as the second screen or your iPad as a third screen and it's not just about watching the game on TV, it becomes part of the entire experience," said Krishna Subramanian, Velti's chief marketing officer.
"People are using their mobile devices to communicate with friends, to share information and to engage with ads and TV content," Subramanian said. "They're looking at the game and going like a level deeper."
Facebook and Twitter apps will be getting a workout during Super Bowl 46, which kicks off at 6:30 pm (2330 GMT), but so will many of the other programs available in Apple's App Store or on the Android Market.
Both the Giants and the Patriots offer free apps with team and player news while the National Football League is offering a Super Bowl 46 Commemorative App for the iPad for $2.99 that promises "exclusive video" and other content.
The official Super Bowl game program is available as a free app for the iPad. Another free app, Football Connect, lets users play against other fans and earn points based on events in the live game.
For those actually going to the game, there is a free Super Bowl 46 Guide with information on restaurants, nightlife and Super Bowl events in the host city, Indianapolis, along with an interactive 3D map of the stadium.
Another free app is NFL Pro Tweets which features tweets from NFL players -- although not from any of the Giants or the Patriots, who are banned from using the service during the game.
This year's Super Bowl will be the first ever streamed live over the Internet, and there's an app for that too.
Computer users can watch the game live at NBCSports.com and mobile or tablet owners can also tune in -- provided they are customers of Verizon and download an NFL Mobile application.
Super Bowl commercials are a sport of their own and Subramanian said fans will be using their smartphones more than ever this year to engage with ads.
"In the first quarter, perhaps, you'll have a brand saying vote for your favorite flavor," he said. "So you'll have people texting in and voting and in the fourth quarter you'll actually see the results."
A Shazam app for advertisements directs smartphone users to bonus content or special offers on the web and a $1.99 Super Ads app for the iPhone offers over 200 Super Bowl commercials from 2006 to 2011 as well as the 2012 ads.
As for Subramanian, he'll be in London on Sunday -- smartphone in hand.
"I still need to figure out where to watch the game," he said. "And I'll have to stay up all night watching it."

LONDON (AFP) - Football icon David Beckham was shown the red card and ordered out of a park while watching a children's match, he said in an interview to be screened Saturday.
The former England captain was sent off after protesting a decision to send off one of the youngsters, he told ITV television.
The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, 36, who was waiting for a match his nine-year-old son Romeo was due to play in, had to go and stand outside the park gate until the game was over.
"I was watching the kids play the other day, it was the game just before they were playing," he said.
"It was the younger kids of Romeo's club, and they're playing in the game and there was a penalty given.
"He sent the kid off. And I was like, 'Come on, he's seven years old, referee, you can't send him off'.
"And he looked at me and was like, 'Yes, I can'. And I was like, 'OK, well, you can't, he's seven years old'.
"And he came over and gave me a red card. He told me to get out of the park. For real.
"The gate was only 20 yards away and I waited and went back in when my son's game was on."
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star said his family was happy in California and did not rule out having more children with his wife, former Spice Girls singer Victoria. The couple have three sons and a daughter.
"We might have one more or two more, you never know. We're not thinking about it yet, but if it happens, great. We're enjoying the kids as it is. It's always a thought."
Beckham, England's most capped outfield player, has set his sights on captaining Great Britain at the Olympic Games in July and August, to be held in his native east London.
Beckham's contract was up at LA Galaxy but last month but he has agreed a new two-year deal contract with the US champions, rejecting offers from Paris Saint-Germain and two English Premier League clubs.
